Winter Roof Check-Up
Winter Roof Check-Up
You Can Have A Roof Inspection In Winter
As the calendar turns from one season to the next, homeowners should take an opportunity to look at the part of their home that provides the most protection: the roof. Roofing contractors recommend having an annual inspection to assess the wear and tear that passing seasons inflict on the structure that keeps the wind, rain and snow out of your family’s living quarters.
Winter may not be the ideal season, but as long as you don’t have a heavy snow load, inspecting the roof now beats waiting until spring when any existing problems will surely be worse. Schedule an inspection immediately if you notice any of the following issues:
• Are any shingles missing?
• Have you noticed leaks anywhere?
• Do you see piles of leaves and twigs on the roof?
• Do the gutters and trim appear bent?
If you see problems on your roof, have them addressed early before major damage occurs.
Start by examining the interior attic area. Ceiling stains or wet insulation indicate that your flashing and transition areas should be inspected. Be aware that a water spot is not always close to the source of a leak. Water can take some unexpected routes, traveling along rafters and the underside of a roof before finally dripping onto a place you can see.
Call In The Pros
Now the exterior of the roof needs a once-over. Do not go up on your roof to perform a DIY inspection. Leave that to the pros who know what to look for and how to walk on a roof safety.
Having an annual roof inspection done by a professional can help prolong the life of your roof because you can catch and fix small problems before they become disasters. The inspector also can answer any questions you may have about your roof or his report, which should include a course of action for any issues found during the assessment.
