Honoring Heroes: Inaugural “Roof for a Vet” is Installed in Lansing, MI

Streamline Enterprises installed their inaugural roof for the “Roof for a Vet” program in Lansing, MI.

Dixie Pettit, a Lansing veteran, has a new, completed roof over her head, thanks to the “Roof for a Vet” program. This initiative, which Streamline plans to continue annually, was created to give back to local veterans, and Dixie’s story has made this project particularly meaningful. Witnessing her home’s transformation over the past few weeks has been an inspiring journey, filled with moments that highlight the importance of community support and gratitude for our veterans.

As mid-production progressed, our President, Collin Scott, and General Manager, Brian Miller, made a special visit to the work site to personally greet Dixie and observe the progress being made. Their presence underscored the commitment Streamline has to the quality and purpose of the “Roof a Vet” campaign. Collin and Brian took the time to discuss the work with Dixie and ensure that every element was on track. This reflected our dedication to providing a safe, reliable roof. Local news stations, including WLNS and FOX 47, captured these moments. This allowed our roofing company to share with the broader Lansing community Dixie’s journey and see the impact of this campaign on her life.

Dixie herself has been involved every step of the way. She selected the Charcoal color for her new GAF Timberline HDZ shingles, a choice that adds elegance to her home’s exterior and provides essential durability to handle Michigan’s varied weather conditions. These high-quality shingles are a trusted choice for Lansing roofing companies, and the bold Charcoal color beautifully complements her home. The results are stunning—her roof not only offers enhanced curb appeal but provides Dixie with lasting security, allowing her to feel safe and prepared for the future.

Reflecting on the journey, Dixie expressed her gratitude, saying, “The ‘Roof for a Vet’ program is amazing. Programs like this help by taking additional stress off veterans’ plates, allowing them to focus on their mission and their service to this country.” She shared that, prior to receiving the new roof, she had faced challenges in maintaining her home and had even been unable to secure home insurance due to the poor condition of her previous roof. “We were uninsured, and there were so many things we are trying to fix,” Dixie explained, highlighting how this campaign has provided more than a roof—it’s given her peace of mind and relief from a major financial burden.

With the final stages now underway, the end result has exceeded all expectations. Collin Scott shared his pride in the project’s mission: “The ‘Roof for a Vet’ campaign is something we’re proud to launch this year, and we look forward to making it an annual tradition. Giving back to veterans like Dixie allows us to show our appreciation and provide them with the security they deserve.” This sentiment has become the heart of the campaign, reminding us of all the value of service and the impact a secure home can have on someone’s life.

Once complete, Dixie’s home will be ready to withstand Lansing’s toughest seasons, from snowy winters to rainy springs. For her, this project represents more than just a roofing upgrade; it’s a renewed sense of stability and pride. Her home now has a beautiful, resilient exterior, and with her new roof, she can finally obtain home insurance and feel assured in the safety of her space.

The success of this year’s “Roof for a Vet” campaign has inspired our team to continue the initiative each year, providing more veterans with the protection and peace of mind they deserve. We are already looking forward to selecting next year’s recipient and expanding this program to reach more veterans across Lansing. Streamline is grateful for the opportunity to honor our veterans one roof at a time, building a legacy of support, gratitude, and security.

About “Roof for a Vet” Program

Each year, we select a United States veteran or an active duty member residing in the Mid Michigan region who have demonstrated exceptional service and dedication, ensuring that they receive the recognition and assistance they truly deserve.

To be considered for the program, the home must be within 40-mile radius of Lansing, MI, owned by an active or retired USA military member, and have a roof over 10 years old. We are now accepting nominations for the Fall 2025 season.

We believe that by supporting our veterans and investing in our community, we are building a stronger, more compassionate future for all. To support even more Veterans, we have a 10% Military Service Discount that is offered at anytime. However, we are extending an extra 15% discount to all applicants. This means, if you’re not selected for the free roof, you can still receive a 25% discount on a new roof. In addition to our military discounts, we offer financing options to make your home improvement projects more affordable.

Veterans or active duty members can either nominate themselves or be nominated by friends, family, and community members. Take part in the “Roof for a Vet” initiative by submitting your entry for consideration.
